1.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Account registration details (name, email address, date of birth, gender, sexual orientation, relationship preferences)
  • Profile information (photos, bio, interests, location details you choose to share)
  • Messages and communications you send to other users through the App
  • Verification information such as phone number (via OTP/PIN code)
  • Any content you upload, including images and videos

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device information (device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers)
  • Log data (IP address, app crashes, activity logs, timestamps)
  • Usage data (features used, time spent, interactions within the App)
  • Network information for real-time features (WebSocket/Socket.IO connections)

1.3 Location Information

With your permission, we collect:

  • Precise location (GPS coordinates) via ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION — used to show nearby matches
  • Approximate location via ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION — used as a fallback
  • Background location via ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION — only if you enable location-based matching while the app is not in use

You may disable location permissions at any time from your device settings; however, location-based features will not be available.

1.4 Media & Storage

  • Photos and images from your device gallery or camera (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, READ_MEDIA_AUDIO, READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 9 and below)
  • Profile photos and media you choose to upload

1.5 Camera

The App requests camera access (android.hardware.camera) for profile photo capture and in-app photography. Camera access is optional and you may upload photos from your gallery instead.

1.6 Audio

The App requests microphone access (RECORD_AUDIO, MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS) for voice and audio messaging features. Audio is only captured when you actively initiate a voice message or call.

1.7 Notifications

We request POST_NOTIFICATIONS permission (Android 13+) to send you match alerts, messages, and App updates. You can manage notification preferences in your device settings.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account and profile
  • Display your profile to potential matches based on your preferences and location
  • Enable real-time messaging and communication features (powered by Socket.IO)
  • Send notifications about matches, messages, and App activity
  • Process and display profile photos and media content
  • Improve and personalize your experience using usage analytics
  • Ensure safety and prevent fraud, abuse, and policy violations
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service
  • Send service-related communications (account updates, security alerts)

3. How We Share Your Information

3.1 With Other Users

Your public profile information (name, photos, bio, interests, general location) is visible to other users of the App as part of the core matchmaking functionality. Your precise GPS coordinates are never shared directly with other users — only approximate distance or location is shown.

3.2 With Service Providers

We may share your data with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the App, including:

  • Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers
  • Analytics services
  • Customer support tools
  • Payment processors (if applicable)

All service providers are contractually obligated to use your data only to perform services on our behalf and in accordance with this policy.

3.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

3.4 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or a prominent in-app notice before your information is transferred or becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the App's services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 8). Certain data may be retained for a limited period after deletion to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on secure servers. We use industry-standard security measures including:

  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Secure local data storage using SQLite/Drift with appropriate access controls
  • Authentication via OTP/PIN code verification
  • Regular security reviews and updates

While we implement robust security measures, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong password and keep your login credentials confidential.

6. Local Storage & Caching

Seren uses local device storage (SharedPreferences, Drift/SQLite local database) to:

  • Store your session and authentication tokens
  • Cache profile data and images for faster loading (via cached_network_image)
  • Remember your app preferences and settings

This data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to third parties.

7. Children's Privacy

Seren is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will immediately terminate their account and delete all associated data. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • INTERNET — Required for all App functionality including API calls, real-time messaging, and media loading

Location

  • ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION — Precise GPS location for accurate nearby match discovery

  • ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION — Location updates when App is backgrounded (only if enabled by user)

Camera & Media

Audio

  • RECORD_AUDIO — Microphone access for voice messages and audio features
  • MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS — Manage audio output routing during calls

Notifications

  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS — Send push notifications for matches, messages, and alerts (Android 13+)

Contacts & Telephony

  • READ_CONTACTS / WRITE_CONTACTS — Optional: used to help you find people you know on the platform (with your explicit consent)
  • android.hardware.telephony — Detect telephony capability (not used for call interception)

10. Third-Party Services

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of such third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use in connection with the App.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
  • Notify you via in-app notification or email
  • For significant changes, request your renewed consent where required by law

Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
